  Notes on application for 2009 Lhasa International Half Marathon Challenge

  Handshake on the Himalayas

  We announce proudly that we will organize 2009 Lhasa International Half Marathon Challenge in August 25, 2009 at Lhasa--- the Holy Land in the Himalayas. Chinese Athletics Association, Tibet Autonomous Region Sport Administration of China, Lhasa people’s Government and Beijing Bei Ao Incorporation will cooperate closely and promote the world's highest city marathon jointly.

  Chinese Athletics Association is a member of the All-China Sports Federation and is the highest management of Chinese Athletics. It publicizes, cultivates and stimulates enthusiasm of the public to participate in the athletics as well as researches and formulates development plans, a variety of methods of management, competitions and training system, the National Competition Plan, rules and regulations. Chinese Athletics Association also carries out international association and technical exchanges, hosts or entrusts members to undertake all kinds of national or international competitions. It offers the appraisal standards and system of the technology level of coaches, athletes and referees and is responsible for the publicity, education and examining work of prohibited drugs in the competitions, and it also organizes scientific researches.

  Tibet Autonomous Region Sport Administration of China is the highest authority which is responsible for the sports management in the Tibet region of China, known for its both authority and professionality. It will promote projects which have sports and the humanistic spirit such as city marathon, mountain marathon, jungle marathon or lakes marathon in the Himalayan region. It hosted Tibet International Half Marathon Challenge in 2004, 2005 and 2006 in the urban area of Lhasa successfully which had a totally more than 3,000 entries in this Challenge.

  Lhasa people’s Government respects Shoton Festival as a Tibet’s traditional and national festival. For recent years, it through the planning, operation, media publicity, building culture and mass participation, it has produced tremendous social and economic benefits and had a great influence in the country. Its long history and rich cultural meaning caused great interests of the media and festival specialists at home and abroad and it won the award of “30 festivals impact on the process of China's festival industry” offering to the 30 years of reform and opening up. Today, China Lhasa Shoton Festival will shake hand with the world's highest marathon, and with its cultural characteristics. Lhasa International Half Marathon Challenge will make itself an already famous festival brands ---“ Lhasa Shoton Festival of Tibet”more perfect.

  Beijing Bei Ao Incorporation established in March 1994 is a wholly state-owned company and is funded by the Beijing Government. Fifteen years since its founding, the company organized a lot of large-scale social and cultural and sports activities and successfully completed more than one hundred important political celebrations and large-scale artistic and sports activities such as “The Great Celebration for the 50th Anniversary of the Nation”,“Celebration Evening of Macau and Hong Kong's return to the Motherland”,“The twentieth anniversary of the Brunei National Day”,“Beijing Olympic Games and Paralympic Games opening and closing ceremonies”and won the wide praise broadly. Facing new development opportunities and the market situation, Bei Ao people will run up to the roof of the world with the marathon footsteps.

  The first Tibet International Half Marathon Challenge shot fired and the race stared at the square of Potala Palace in 9:00 am, September 12, 2004 .From now on, people in love of running, from various regions began to step deftly to fathom the meaning of life, and perceive Himalayas’s super-natural fascination, experience and taste the dignity of life, understand the glory and grandeur of Being, discover self-confidence and self-identification.

  If you still felt regretful and lost, that’s simply because you didn’t in person tasted the atmosphere of the Marathon in Hymalayas, because you didn’t have a chance to listen your heartbeat under Hymalayas.

  The shot of 2009 Lhasa International Half Marathon Challenge will be fired and the race started at the square of Potala Palace in 9:30 am, October 25, 2009.

  Run on the sacred track

  The magnificent Square of Potala Palace is the starting point of Lhasa International Half Marathon Challenge. It will pass through famous sights: Norbulingka Park , The Tibet Museum, Tibet University, Sera Monastery, The Fringe of Barkhor Street and so on. The destination put the inside of Tibet ’s racecourse.

  Total length: 21.0975 kilometer

  Altitude: 3670 meter

  Road situation: bituminous road smoothly

  My check in Tibet:

  At present, in light of capability of transportation, tourism infrastructure and reception capacity, the government encourages tourist groups to come. For foreigners, they should have the confirmation letter to be visit the Tibet.

  Passport and Visa:

  Foreign contestant must have their own valid passport issued by their country and visa by the Chinese Embassy or Consulate in their States as well.

  Confirmation letter for Tibet-entry:

  Foreign individuals or groups who participate in the 2009 Lhasa International Half Marathon Challenge must have the Tibet-entry confirmation letter issued by Lhasa International Half Marathon Challenge Organizing Committee (LIHMCOC).

  Application for permission:

  You will get relevant formalities in 7 working days, if you refer materials to the LIHMCOC by fax and e-mail, such as time schedule, the route of visiting Tibet, name, passport number, occupation, work units, address and contact.

  STEPS TO APPLY

  Step 1:

  First of all, you can acquire the latest information and application form by contacting LIHMCOC or clicking on web sites: https://sports.sohu.com, https://www.tibet.cn.

  Step 2:

  Please submit your individual information or registration form to the LIHMCOC by fax and e-mail.

  Individual information—name, age, gender, nationality(household registration), the copy of passport(I.D card), the history of participating in the Marathon, the reports of food and drug allergy, physical health, contact (telephone number, fax , e-mail, mailing address ).

  Fill out the application form and affix your signature.

  Step 3:

  After LIHMCOC sent confirmation letter to you by fax and e-mail, you are able to plan your journey. LIHMCOC would get in touch with the local travel agencies for you, if you need the services.

  Step 4:

  After you arrived at Lhasa, you will get the relevant articles and documents, after then, you must also taking the physical examination and administrative inspection by LIHMCOC.

  Step 5:

  We will do everything during your journey, if you send your tour plan, hotel reservation, air ticket booking etc by fax and e-mail.

  We will choose travel agencies and provide the tour plan for you.

  We hope you will contact with us timely, if you unable to carry out the original plan, then we will re-arrange the trip for you.

  NOTICE:

  Because of holding the plateau marathon, LIHMCOC would arrange

  physical examination for you before competition. LIHMCOC would have

  right to decide that participants take part in the competition or not

  according to the medical report provided by appointed hospital and refuse

  runners participating the competition. But you can still receive the

  products and souvenirs and other events provided by LIHMCOC.
