TIANJIN, China, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- Because of start mistake on the last dive, China's favorites Li Jincong/Cai Chengcheng conceded the gold of the men's 3m springboard synchro to Japan's Hasegawa Hiroto/Okamoto Yu at the 6th East Asian Games (EAG) here on Wednesday.
Li/Cai dominated the first five rounds before Cai made a start mistake for their last dive 5156B which led to a zero-point finish. The Chinese pair had to settle for a bronze in 340.98 points.
Hasegawa Hiroto/Okamoto Yu of Japan won the title in 368.01 while Park Jiho/Kim Jin Yong of South Korea came to second in 364.83.
"I was too eager to dive to my best in the last. I walked crookedly on the springboard and could not jump as high as the dive required. So I did not dive. I felt sorry for that," Cai said.
Cai's mistake stopped China's unbeaten streak in the EAG diving though Wang Hao/Wang Xin later claimed the women's 3m springboard synchro title with 308.70. Kim Suji/Cho Eunbi from South Korea was the runner-up in 269.61 and Kim Jin Hyang/Kim Jin Ok of DPR Korea was the third in 269.10.
China collected nine gold, three silver and four bronze medals during the three-day diving, followed by Japan 1-1-0, South Korea 0-3-2 and DPR Korea 0-2-2.
