TIANJIN, China, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese men's basketball team rallied with a 22-5 fourth period to beat South Korea 61-52 in the semifinals of the 6th East Asian Games (EAG) here on Sunday.

He Tianju had a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds. Zhai Xiaochuan and Sun Tonglin finished with 14 and 10 points respectively.

"We met many troubles due to injuries and lack of training time, but we neve gave up to fight back one by one. I'm proud of my players," said China coach Fan Bin.

Zhao Tailong opened the game with two consecutive three-pointers. China trailed by 10-11 after South Korean Kim Mingoo's three-pointer midway through the first quarter, while never thinking of erasing a one-point deficit with three quarters.

China trailed by ten points into the halftime, suffered from its 4 of 16 three-pointers.

China still suffered an eight-point deficit after the fourth period began, while erasing it little by little through solid defense.

Shirelijan shone with a three-pointer and a layup to lead by 50-49, the first lead since the first quarter.

South Korean players began to lose concentration then. Sun Tonglin and He Tianju helped the team for a six-point lead to secure the victory.

"We resisted the opponent's speed and got the victory with our advantage in height," said Fan.

South Korean coach Choi Bu Yung felt sorry for the result. "We suffered from our few points and rebounds in the fouth quarter," he said.

In an early semifinal, Chinese Taipei held off Japan 103-74.
