MOSCOW: Four-time Olympic champion Alexander Popov failed in his bid to become president of the Russian Swimming Federation (RSF) on Wednesday. He was beaten by 40 votes to 33 in his attempt to oust incumbent Gennady Alyoshin. Popov lost despite receiving heavy backing from several top Russian sports officials, including IOC vice-president Vitaly Smirnov, president of the Russian Olympic Committee Leonid Tyagachyov and Sports Minister Vyacheslav Fetisov. "It was a good learning experience for me," said Popov, who in a separate vote was elected first vice-president of the RSF. 转自搜狐
