Smarty Jones won the 130th Kentucky Derby today, charging passed runner-up Lion Heart in the home stretch to become only the fifth undefeated horse to capture the American thoroughbred classic. Winning in two minutes and four seconds on a muddy track, Smarty Jones became the first unbeaten horse to win the Derby since Seattle Slew in 1977. Jockey Stewart Elliott was the first Derby debutante rider to claim the "Run for the Roses" since Ron Franklin aboard Spectacular Bid in 1979. Heavy rain left the Churchill Downs track a muddy mess for the 1.25-mile (2km) oval classic of top three-year-olds, but the $US1.15 million showdown still attracted a strong crowd. It was only the fourth sloppy track in the event's 130-year history. 转自搜狐
