Player Profile
Looking for his fourth European Tour victory, Irishman Paul McGinley finished strongly at the recent Carlsberg Malaysian Open for a tied fourth place. He’ll certainly aim to better that result here in Sanya
McGinley put himself on the map when he holed the winning putt in The 34th Ryder Cup at The De Vere Belfry. His ten footer on the 18th green secured a half with Jim Furyk and with it the famous trophy for Team Europe. The Irishman could be considered a lucky charm as his only two appearances in the Ryder Cup had resulted in victories for Europe.
McGinley moved from Gaelic football to golf after suffering a broken left knee cap at the age of 19. That very year he played in Walker Cup, and helped Liam White beat Phil Mickelson and Bob May. The year 2000 was his best year on tour so far, when he finished in the top ten on eight occasions.
